Food coma

Yesterday Carl and I went out for Sunday brunch at the Westin hotel in Beijing's financial district. It is a very swank, all-you-can-eat, champagne brunch. We went partly as a celebration of Carl's birthday, and partly as a reward for living in a country that is very cold and polluted at the moment. The food is spectacular and there is everything: fresh sushi, Italian antipasto, juice bar, martini bar, dim sum, BBQ, roast meats and fish, peking duck station, ceviche bar, chilled seafood bar, risotto, cheese barrow, fruit station, unbelievable desserts, and by no means least, free-flowing champagne! We asked ayi to come and look after Olivia so that we could enjoy the whole thing. We were there for 2.5 hours! You have to be very strategic about what and when you eat, pacing your eating is key. The chefs even come out to talk to some of the diners, at one point they brought out a whole rack of lamb and were circulating through the tables serving people. Another time they came out with delicious 6-foot long Swiss roll with santas on it. It was so relaxing for us to be able to just sit that long for a meal, normally we're chasing a highly active 2 year old. We followed our meal with a 1 hour Chinese massage at our favourite spa. What a perfect Sunday.
