Chaoyang Park

Right near our apartment was a huge park. It wasn't that easy to actually get into the park so we didn't tend to go there. But now that the weather was getting hotter (we discovered that BJ goes from Winter into Summer in one weekend) we decided to venture out to the park. Don't think of nice grassy green parks like in England and the US; this place was a little scrubby (the Chinese can't do grass very well). But it did have a tacky amusement park in it and we saw kids carrying balloons and, after all, what more do you need than a balloon to make your day?
Most of the rides at the park were for older kids but there was a little section for smaller kids. We paid about $2 to get in and then let Olivia decide what to do. She made a bee line for the giant sand pit. Luckily it was covered by a big awning so the sand didn't get too hot but I can feel the heat just by looking at the photos. Olivia made friends with a little local boy. Check out his traditional hair cut; the Chinese believe that shaving little boy's heads when they are young while leaving some 'tufts' makes the hair grow thick and strong.
