The end of our China adventure has come round all too quickly. Suddenly everything seemed to involve buying, visiting, seeing things for the last time, We had a long list of things that we wanted to take back with us - furniture, curtains, art, mementos etc. Some of which we got, some we didn't. At least that is an excuse to go back (Carl will definitely head back for work, me - not so sure.)
My work colleagues organised a night away in traditional chinese houses up near the Great Wall. There were 18 of us including 5 kids; this gave Olivia the chance to show her Chinese to my work mates. They were very impressed and apparently her accent is perfect. It was a great send off. Carl had his goodbye dinner at a Japanese teppanyaki bar with his work mates and had an evening of 'all you can eat, all you can drink'. Typical!
I was done with the forms and relocation paperwork and couldn't wait to be in California. We would miss our ayi (in fact, when saying goodbye to Olivia's nanny in the car park on the way to the airport, Carl, ayi and I were all in tears. The only one not crying was Olivia! I think that we were crying for her as she didn't understand that she'd never see her again). Ayi was one of the best things in China.
Here are a couple of the last photos I took. Olivia (plus bunny) on the pool table at the Mexican Grill, Olivia visiting a donkey up in Mutianyu near the Great Wall, and playing outside our apartment.
